Abstract
Yan Wenliang’s artistic journey in landscape oil painting was notably influenced by Impressionism, highlighting his relentless pursuit of a fusion style that blends Chinese and Western elements. In the initial phase, Yan Wenliang focused on meticulous depiction and profound harmonious tones, reflecting the characteristics of the customs for oil paintings that mirrored the atmosphere of life during the Republic of China era. As his experience studying in France accumulated and his oil painting skills improved, his Impressionist style in landscape oil paintings gradually matured. In the later stage, Yan Wenliang’s landscape oil paintings distinctly demonstrated a pursuit of individuality. During this phase, he exhibited a deep knowledge and integration of Chinese traditional aesthetics and Impressionism, conveying the aesthetic tastes of Chinese painters and profound emotions towards life.
